In being on the look out for nice Ukuleles I see the work of a number of full and part time luthiers. The instruments they make look very nice and worthy of note.
An award winning luthier from Portugal who started making instruments some time before 2007. He is more famous for his Cavaquinhos and other Portuguese folk instruments than for Ukuleles but he has made some
He works out of the "Craft Village" in Quex Park, Kent UK. (I have seen him put Quex and a big Q as the headstock brand too). He started out training as a cabinetmaker and boat builder and from this knowledge of working with wood he went on to start making and repairing instruments. One of the nice things about it is he uses mainly local wood from Quex Park rather than exotic imported wood, hence the predominantly walnut Ukuleles
