Toukaki Tenor Ukulele
Toukaki Tenor
There are a lot of Ukulele factories in China, usually in Guangzhou, and whilst some of them make the famous brands that are distributed internationally, (and some don't respect copyright), they also produce other less famous brands that only get very limited distribution. These may be the factory "house" brands or may be a limited trial run and they never really went into production, (but then a trial run of 500 is more than some luthiers will ever make)? I haven't found the information to be more specific, but some of these brands are as good as the famous ones made along side them so deserve some recognition.
Some of the factories will have used more than one of the brand names on otherwise identical models of Ukulele and I am finding the more I look into it that some of these "manufacturers" are really only Ukulele distributors and by this I mean that a company that specialises in making say Guitars or Violins is asked by a customer to supply Ukuleles as well. Instead of making the Ukuleles themselves, although they probably could, they buy them from one of the other factories and sell them on as their own; making it hard to work out who exactly makes them? Anyway here is what I have found. (It is also tricky to get the company name right as in translation it often appears to include some or all of the address and I don't know if this is a formal thing or just an issue with translation?)

A Hong Kong based musical instrument company that claims to have its own production plants in Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces, (certainly they get their Guitars, Ukuleles and possibly other instruments from Taiyang Musical Instruments in Jiangsu province but I don't know that they own the facility?). They sell all manner of Instrument including Percussion, Wind and a selection electric and acoustic chordophones. All of the products are pretty budget and as much toy as musical instrument, but the catalogue does include a number of decorated Soprano Ukulele that I have not seen elsewhere and feature the return of the plastic fretboard. The also suggest they are the supplier for a number of large international retailers including Argos, KMart, Smyths Toys, GiFi, Toys'R'Us with their Imaginarium Ukuleles and Asda/Walmart and the Spectrum Ukuleles

China Options Co. - Padova Musical World

China Options Co. is a middleman/distribution company aimed at helping supply all of China's consumer products to the rest of the world. In 2012 they founded Padova Musical World to distribute musical instruments under the Padova brand name. They say they have more than 1000 musical instruments carrying this name and with that many it does include some Ukuleles. The models they show are mainly budget Soprano ranges including a large world flag range, (the name "Macarons Ukulele Package" also appears but I don't know what this is referring too?) As well as the budget ranges there are a few better quality Ukuleles in Soprano, Concert or Tenor scales in the usual selection of, (usually laminate), woods. Though Banjos feature in the overall catalogue there are no Banjoleles as far as I can see.

Qingdao St. Arts Music Co.

Also known as Tang Song Musical Instrument Co with a foundation date for Tang Song of 1995. These are the people who own the Toukaki brand and they appear to be the owners of a chain of Chinese music shops?
