In being on the look out for nice Ukuleles I see the work of a number of full and part time luthiers. The instruments they make look very nice and worthy of note.

Glenn Bosshard - Hula Monkey

Based in Arnold, Maryland, he is a leather worker by profession but has also worked as a carpenter. He has had a number of health problems over the last 10 or so years so his output has been a bit sporadic but I know he was still building in 2014. Over the years he has made a number of scale lengths and I know of alternate body shapes and Taropatches too

Steve Wiencrot

From Colorado, he is a member of the Colorado Luthiers Guild and has been a Guild of American Luthiers member since 2000. As well as Ukuleles he also makes Mandolins, Guitars and Dulcimers

Ron Hyde - Hydemade

Base in Tonasket, Washington, he makes all sorts of things including musical instruments. From his two websites you get the impression he makes only Mandolins and the instrument pictured, according to Ron, can be tuned as a Mandolin or a Ukulele, but I have also seem Banjos, Guitars and other instruments made by him; he also says he has been making instruments since the 1970s
