In being on the look out for nice Ukuleles I see the work of a number of full and part time luthiers. The instruments they make look very nice and worthy of note.
Aaron Oya
From Kapolei, O'ahu. In addition to making Ukuleles he is famous for his decorative inlays and has done work for Ko'olau, Kamaka, and KoAloha. His own Ukuleles are usual heavily inlaid. He use to call his Ukuleles Aaron Taylor and Kikani, plus I have seen an example of his work with ATM on the headstock too
Bryan Luker - Haiku
From Hilo on the Big Island and I have only seen Tenors
Calvin Okahara - Koa Rhythms
I believe his is based in Kona on the Big Island makes 8 to 10 instruments a year and has been making them since 1999 I have only seen Tenors but I have read he makes Concerts and Baritones as well but not Soprano?
