In being on the lookout for nice Ukuleles I see the work of a number of full and part time luthiers. The instruments they make look very nice and worthy of note.

Dan Richter - Dragonfly Guitars

Founded in 1999 and based in Gibsons, British Columbia he mainly makes acoustic and electric Guitars but in the past he has made Tenor Guitars and Tenor scale Ukuleles. In addition to making Guitars he runs a full guitar making course doing everything including rosettes, (and he does make very nice and original rosettes on his own instruments), purfling work, wood bindings and inlay. All his instruments come with an oval sound hole, (well the acoustic ones), and a heel-less bolt on neck joint

Meredith Coloma

Based in Vancouver, British Columbia she started out as a luthier apprenticing to Roger Sadowsky and then Michael Dunn. She is most known for Guitars and Mandolins, especially ones with Art Deco inspired decorative inlaid backs, but she also makes Ukuleles and Violins plus other instruments on request and she has a repair service that includes Banjos. She only really makes custom orders but I have seen instruments for sale on her website and as well as making instrument she also regularly teaches both classes and individuals

Sonny Black

Based in Osoyoos, British Columbia he does stringed instrument repairs and design. He makes all types of chordophone including acoustic and electric Guitars, Mandolins and Ukuleles, and claims over 30 years in the business as a fully qualified luthier. I have very little information about him as his website no longer seems to work?
