In being on the look out for nice Ukuleles I see the work of a number of full and part time luthiers. The instruments they make look very nice and worthy of note.
He comes from Rochester, New York, makes mainly Guitars and has been working since before 2011; that's all I have found out about him?
John Mayes - Mayes Guitars
From Oklahoma, he specialises in Guitars but does make the occasional Ukulele too. He took up luthiery in 1996 and became professional in 2000 when he started working for Pantheon Guitars. After some time working there he left and started his own business. In addition to making instruments John has also made a series of instructional DVD's on instrument making including one on Cigar Box Ukuleles.
A music teacher and musical instrument maker from Ithaca, New York. He started his manufacturing career making Drums but in the late 1990's he started making stringed instruments as well. He is very innovative in his designs and his catalogue includes a modern day Octophone that can be used as a Tenor or a Baritone Taropatch as well as the various Mandolin and Tenor Guitar tunings
