In being on the look out for nice Ukuleles I see the work of a number of full and part time luthiers. The instruments they make look very nice and worthy of note.
From Annapolis, Maryland, and is very highly regarded, he makes all sizes of Ukulele from Soprano to Baritone including a small Concert scale, (just over 14 inches) he calls Mezzosoprano. I've not seen any long neck or extra string options but I have seen Resonators. He started making instruments in 1995 and it became his full time profession in 2004.
He started building & repairing guitars in 1975 and is based in Beaumont, Texas. He still makes primarily Guitars, but he does make Ukuleles and other instruments as well. He likes to try and use very traditional methods and materials in his instrument manufacture plus he use to put a "Lone Star" on the headstock but this has been replaced now with an N. For Ukuleles he uses mainly mahogany, but does do spruce tops as well. He makes Soprano, Concert and Tenor scale Ukuleles and he usually builds on spec and then sells
From Little River, California he has been making Ukuleles since 2000 after he studied Guitar building at The American School of Lutherie. He makes Concert and Tenor sizes, (plus Guitars), in a variety of woods. He also studied shell inlay with Larry Robinson and this aspect is shown in the different headstock designs on his Ukuleles, and he also does inlay work for other luthiers.
