21st c. Luthiers from Hawaii click for more
In being on the look out for nice Ukuleles I see the work of a number of full and part time luthiers. The instruments they make look very nice and worthy of note.
Garrett Kealoha Peters Sr. - Sound of Hawaii
I have no information about his Ukuleles only his family, (and its an old Hawaiian family)
Lyman Ashikawa - Lymana
From Oahu, he has been making 20 or so quality Ukuleles a year since before 2004. He makes Soprano, Concert and Tenor, in Koa, Mango or Mahogany to 3 standards plus a Bill Tapia Special that only comes as a Tenor. He will also do custom work, including Baritones. His standard designs are very traditional with bridge pins and a Zero fret.
Mark Bajet - Wai'olu
From Nanakuli, Hawaii. he learned the craft working for G String and Kanile'a. before leaving to start his own firm in about 2007 with his brother Kimo (who looks after marketing and the like). He makes make Soprano, Concert and Tenor Ukuleles plus any custom work that comes along
