Troughear Soprano
In being on the look out for nice Ukuleles I see the work of a number of full and part time luthiers. The Ukuleles and other instruments they make look very nice and worthy of note.

David Aumann

From Heathmont, Victoria, Australia he is a retired secondary school maths/chemistry teacher who now makes Guitars Mandolins and Ukuleles in his spare time. He has been making instruments since the early 1980s and initially learned for luthiery books. He makes all scales of Ukulele from Soprano to Baritone, all string configurations including Tiple, Guitalele and double G. plus fretted and fretless Uke Basses, (that are more long scale than the U-Bass and patterned on the Martin size 5 Guitar). When possible he likes to use local woods, especially Australian blackwood and Tasmanian oak, (which is actually a eucalypt), but he will use more exotic woods when and if required.

Matti

I am not sure if this is a small firm or a single a luthier, (but all evidence is its a single person so I will put the entry here for the moment)? Whatever the case they are based near Slacks Creek, Queensland, Australia, and as a brand have been around since 2011. They are predominantly sold through Gold Coast Ukuleles and there is a facebook page but no web site I can find? What I know about them is they all come with a graphite truss rod in the neck they often have an extra large sound hole. They say they makes all scales of Ukulele, including the long neck ones, but Tenors appear the most popular. They also make Lili'us, Taropatches, small bodied travel Ukes, cigar boxes and Resonators, (using DRC cones)

Richard Troughear

He is primarily a Dulcimer maker based in Brogo, NSW, Australia but he has made other instruments as well. He has been making instruments since 1969 though I don't think this is his main occupation, and he only used local Australian woods. The Ukuleles I have seen of his are based around the Tahitian Ukulele way of producing instrument but are Soprano size and only have 4 strings
